HHHaystack’s Weekly Style Tip on Jen’s List

My style tip on this week’s Jen’s List:

How many of you have been wearing the same bra for years and have no idea if it fits properly? Did you buy your bra based on the size you think you are rather than the size that you really need? Did you know that a well fitted bra can give you a better shape AND make you look slimmer? If your bra is riding up in the back, it’s too big (in number, not letter), so swap your 34C for a 32C. Another tip: Get help from a certified bra fitter from a bra boutique (they will have a “certified bra fitter” sign in the window) or head to Nordstrom where they have certified bra fitters to help you.

I just have to tell you that I went to Nordstrom to buy a new bra a few days ago, and the saleswoman was absolutely laughable in her lack of knowledge. She was very young — maybe just out of high school, and told me she believed I was a double D (if you saw me, you’d realize that’s funny. If I inhale, I’m a B). She told me she was a D too (equally laughable), and she was just so pathetically uninformed about bras that my mom and I ended up walking out and going across the Westside Pavilion to Macy’s, where at least no one pretends to know anything! So when I saw your Jen’s list post about Nordstrom’s pro bra fitters, I just had to respond.

I am sorry to hear about your experience! That’s really unfortunate and Nordstrom should be embarrassed for allowing her to call herself a certified bra fitter. I know that Nordstrom does put them through training in order to have that title but obviously she slipped through the cracks. I have clients who have had luck at the Nordtstom in the Topanga Mall or my other suggestion is to go to a boutique in your area that has a certified bra fitter. There should be a sign in the window. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions or want more information. I appreciate your comment as it is always helpful to hear other peoples experiences. Thanks again.

After getting a bra fit at Nordstroms I never want to go to VS again. What a difference. I was in and out in 5 mins and the lady knew exactly what would fit me (and best of all I didn’t have to put those bras back on the hangers.) LOVE THAT!
